Fixing plastic parts
Several ideas about fixing the inevitable cracks in the plastic parts of the CT series have been posted to the CT90 Mailing List. Here's a short summary:
I have had good luck using epoxy from model shops, fine mesh
fiberglass tape to reinforce the underside of the crack and micro
balloon filler mixed into the epoxy for fill.
I personally regard reinforcing mesh as vital if you want to keep a crack from spreading. The most common crack locations on the CT are the headlight bucket, the bottom screw-holes of the frame cover, the bottom of the air cleaner box and the little locating tab on the bottom of the battery cover. Occasionally, the battery cover will crack if someone screwed the knob in too tight.
I have used a 2 part plastic epoxy made by 3M with a good deal of
success (so far, about one year) I think I got it at an Ace Hardware
store..I used it on a battery side cover and a old CT200 style
headlight housing, forcing it into the cracks and spread some over
the backside of the crack, wiping any excess oozed glue off the
exposed side of the part..Sounds like the fiberglass and resin
suggested in the other post might be a good idea too.
