1969 Red CT-90 K1b

This was the first actual confirmation I ever found that the "K1b" model actually existed. This is a 1969 model, but it differs from the earlier K1 in that it has many important mechanical and cosmetic changes. First, notice that the old leading-link suspension is gone, replaced by telescopic shocks. The intake has been changed so that the carb is above and behind the head instead of being directly over it. With that intake is a totally new (and totally unique) plastic intake housing that stops just below the seat. This was the only year this occurred. In 1970, the intake extended up into the rear deck.

Among other differences, note the different front fender and gas tank, the molded hardshell downtube cover, and the fact that the chrome rear deck no longer has the older painted narrow one under it. The shock mounts have been moved, also.

These uncommon bikes do exist, although the special 1969-only plastic parts make them a pain to restore. Many people, when they find them without the plastic, mistake them for the 1970 model.
